Coca-Cola Reaffirms Commitment to Healthy, Active Living

Coca-Cola North America Part of National Initiative to Help Reduce Obesity

WASHINGTON DC, October 5, 2009 – Coca-Cola North America today announced that it has joined other food and beverage industry leaders in committing to actions designed to help Americans live healthy, active lives and make informed choices about what they eat and drink. The Company has partnered with a broad coalition of industry associations, food and beverage manufacturers, retail partners and other allies in The Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation to bring a common-sense approach to helping reduce obesity by 2015. The group has made childhood obesity a particular focus and the message is simple: Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is about balancing the calories consumed in a healthy and sensible diet with calories expended through physical activity. “We recognize that the world is changing and that increasingly, Americans are realizing the importance of living an active, balanced and healthy lifestyle,” said Sandy Douglas, President of Coca-Cola North America, who also serves as Treasurer of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation. “As a beverage industry leader, Coca-Cola is proud to do our part to help make it easier for people to achieve their goals.” Coca-Cola is leading by example, having just recently announced plans to place calorie information on the front of our packages worldwide. This effort, which is already underway in the United States, will make it easier for shoppers to find and read calorie information and make more informed choices. As a world leader in beverage innovation, Coca-Cola also will be
introducing portion control package options in 2010 that will help Americans more easily measure what they drink in calories instead of ounces.

“This is a unique opportunity to make a difference through a collaborative effort,” Douglas said. “We already have a broad product portfolio, a number of nutrition education and physical activity initiatives underway and a history of innovation. Now, we hope to further our partnerships with government, other businesses and civil society to find solutions that work for everyone.”
