The foundation is made up of 40 companies including retailers like United Supermarkets, manufacturers including Kellogg Co. and PepsiCo, non-profit organizations and trade associations. Members have committed $20 million to the effort.

Kellogg Co. Chief Executive Officer David Mackay announced a $20 million anti-obesity campaign to encourage some of the world’s largest food makers to reconsider the way they sell their products. PepsiCo Inc. of Purchase, N.Y.; General Mills Inc. of Golden Valley; Sara Lee Corp. of Downers Grove, Ill.; and other companies said they would make their products more health conscious.
Coalition Aims to Reduce Obesity

Retailers, the food and beverage industry and nonprofits launched on Monday the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, a partnership aimed at fighting obesity. Backers said the idea is to help reduce obesity, especially among children, by promoting the idea of balancing calories expended in physical activity with calories consumed in a healthy diet.
